New Years in China

March 18, 2018 · 4 Comments

This post is a little late, but better late than never! In February, I spent Lunar New Year with my family in China. We did quite a bit of sightseeing, and we also spent a lot of time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. When I was in school, I’d visit every two or three years, but since graduating, I haven’t really had time to. This was such an amazing experience, and I really hope I get to go back soon, so I can explore more places! For the most part, we stuck with Beijing and Shandong. Click on to see some pictures!

(Warning: pretty image-heavy ahead):

First thing’s first, some shots of cities from above. (Why is everything on top of a mountain, though? Seriously, everything was uphill…) The bright side is, we got to slide down one of the mountains on a large slide! You could control your speed, and you could even stop if you wanted to. I was super wimpy so I didn’t go very fast, and the people behind me kept yelling at me to go faster, haha.

When you go to China, you’ve gotta visit the Great Wall, Forbidden Palace, and TianAnMen Square!

We also took a walk at the Summer Palace:

We also got a break from climbing all those mountains by going down into a cave! And walking around a lake at night. It was amazing to watch all the lights slowly turn on as the day wound down.

The best part about China, though… was the food! Holy crap, all the street food especially was amazing…

Here’s a preview of our new years dinner that everyone helped to cook:

And finally, on our last day, I got to visit the elementary school I went to. Quite honestly, it didn’t look familiar at all. But it was really cool to see parts of my past.

That must have been cool to spend the Lunar New Year in China! I haven’t been since 2006, and I’ve been thinking I should go back soon.

I remember visiting the Great Wall, Forbidden Palace, and TianAnMen Square too! Forbidden Palace was my favorite of the three. You got so many lovely views from the mountains, though I had no idea they had a large slide on one of them. That sounds both fun and scary, haha.

Ohh yummy, all that street food looks good. Also, I didn’t know you went to elementary school in China! I’m glad you had a good time there though!

That sounds like an amazing trip to get to spend the Lunar New Year in China, and see all the culture and customs. Your pictures certainly place a very beautiful sight, especially those night images :O
The images of your dinner look delicious, and made me quite hungry! I’m glad you had a good time, and enjoyed some good companionship.

Your elementary school looks quite awesome.

It looks like it was a really great trip! Seeing all of those places would be a wonderful sight to see. I think I would have been pretty scared on the slide haha.

Your post made me want to visit!

Mmmmm the food. 😍

That’s kinda cool to get to visit a bit of your past. I always wanted to go back to where I grew up and see what it all looks like now. I loved all your photos. Especially all the food. It looks interesting and tasty.
