I live! … Sort of

July 20, 2016 · 1 Comment

This blog has been pretty horribly neglected lately. Part of it is due to the fact that I felt like I didn’t really have much to say. My days have been pretty much work, then dog, then sleep. And that’s not too exciting, is it? The other part is that I’ve just been too lazy to sit down and write. Oops. So here’s a quick update on what’s been going on with me…

Orange is the New Black

I had to go back and rewatch the original seasons, because it’s been a year and I honestly could not remember what had happened up until now. So, I’ve only recently finished this year’s season, and… wow.

I won’t go into spoilers, but I will say that it was an intense roller coaster of feelings, and I’m so, so, so sitting on the edge of my seat for the next season. (Though, by the time it comes out… I’ll probably have forgotten 75% of what happened this season…)

Pokémon Go

Of course, I’ve been playing this game! It’s kind of everything that I’d ever wanted when I was a little kid. Not to mention, it’s refreshing that a game is encouraging people to get outside more. Hermes is getting walked 3x as much and way longer than he’s used to, that’s for sure… I’m only level 14 right now, though. I feel like I’m so far behind others! Sadly, there’s not a whole lot going on in my neighborhood or around my work, so in order to really play, I have to drive to another location. Still, the wave of nostalgia I’m getting makes it all worth it.

If you are playing, I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts on the game. The server issues have been annoying at times, but thankfully I haven’t had to deal with them too much. It probably helps that there’s not much around me. I’ve also been using the game as a way to facilitate exercise. Before going out on a Pokémon Go adventure, sometimes I’ll start incubating an egg and tell myself that I’ll have to walk around until that egg hatches, before I’ll allow myself to head home. It’s a cute way to get 2km, 5km, or 10km of walking in without it feeling like a chore!

And of course, if you’re playing the game, please use common sense! Don’t play and drive, and always be aware of your surroundings! Also please be respectful of establishments, landmarks, monuments, etc. Pick up after yourself and please don’t be disruptive. <3

Cosplay

It’s that time of year again… Dragon*Con is right around the corner, and I’m so not prepared. This will actually be my first year at Dragon*con, so I’m super excited for it. I did technically stop by for half a day a few years ago (because Liam McIntyre, Lucy Lawless, and Manu Bennett were there and I couldn’t miss the chance to just see them!) but I feel like half a day doesn’t exactly do the convention justice. Half of that was mostly just standing in lines anyways, aha.

I can’t say I’m an expert at cosplay, but I do think I’ve gotten better. This year, I’ve got two projects. I’ve actually just finished one, and I’ll be wearing that in two weeks to a local event. I’ll post pictures then! My other project is to redo my Wonder Woman outfit. Last year, I made it out of EVA foam. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with worbla and wonderflex. William is actually making a Soldier 76 (Overwatch) mask from wonderflex, so he’s been doing a whole lot of research on the material. It looks like it has the potential to turn out looking a lot cooler.

But we’ll see…

And that’s really all that’s been going on with me! I’m going to try and update this blog more often and be less lazy.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with Pokemon Go! The server issues were super frustrating at first, especially since it’d often freeze during gym fights or while catching Pokemon. It’s been a lot more stable lately, so that’s nice. It’s definitely made me go out more often, since my neighborhood has the same problem where there’s not much there. I’m going to parks and shopping centers instead, which I have to drive to.

Oh oh! I used Worbla recently, and it wasn’t as hard to pick up as I thought. I still have a lot of work to do on improving though! My Worbla doesn’t come out as smooth as I would like, haha. Can’t wait to see your new cosplays!
